Your site should look amazing in the search results display as it massively impacts your click through rate. Here’s how to improve it and get more visitors.

This is part 8 of an 8-part website development series on making sure your website has a strong foundation for success.

Making a Small Change For a Massive Difference

Sometimes small changes make the biggest difference!

Here at Lab41 we really focus on the 80/20 principle for our clients, which as you know states that you can get 80% of the results with 20% of the effort.

Do you want to have a good website design? If you do – do NOT miss our article with number of important hints!

For us this means focusing on what brings the biggest impact first. Once you’ve got your 80% impact completed, you can then later come back and focus on the last 20%.

The Game Of SEO

Search engines are computer programs. They think in 1s and 0’s.

Humans think on a much more lateral scale. So when you’ve written a great article about your subject, and a search engine reads it, it’s very possible that you’re on different wavelengths.

Unfortunately, it’s the search engines who decide which website ranks where, and as we all know, when people are looking for something they go to the internet first.

Ultimately, the search engines have a massive impact on your online business.

You Need a Bridge Between Humans & Computers

So when you’re writing your amazing article, combining years of your experience, you need to keep in mind that you’re not only writing for your website visitors, but also for the search engines.

Your focus should be for your human visitors, but with a few minor tweaks you can ensure that search engines also know what your content is about! I’ll take a look at how you can easily do this with a nifty little tool in my next email.

Make Sure Your Site Looks Great In The Search Results

When your website pages are displayed in the search results it’s critical that they grab attention and look great.

This is the very first interaction your client has with your website, so make it attention grabbing!

A Quick Action Step

Go on, take a look at how your website looks in the search results.

Go to Google and type in ‘Site:YourWebsite.com‘.

Do they grab attention? Does it make you want to click on the link?

If not, you need to do something about this!

Making Your Search Results Look Great

I’m going to share a fundamental on-site SEO principle that’s easy to follow. Don’t worry, I won’t get technical!

Basically, by using a nifty little tool, we can bridge the gap between humans and search engines, and ensure that you have the best chance of getting ranked for the correct phrases.

Think of it like a translator.

The First Step In Website SEO

Is to make sure these results look great and MAKE users want to click on your website links! You might have the best looking site in the world, but if nobody actually visits it, well that’s a shame!

It’s like the cover of a book. People are more likely to buy books with great covers than those without. The same principle applies.

So make sure your website looks AMAZING in the search results.

There’s a nifty tool we use for this, so there’s no excuse to not do this properly!

Communicating With Robots

A search engine is like a robot. They think differently. Just try ask a robot how it’s feeling. You’d be surprised that they can’t answer it.

There are a few simple things you can do to make sure that a search engine understand what your article is about.

Let me give you a quick example.

I have an article and it has a picture in it, and the picture is labelled 001.jpg.

Tell me, what’s the picture about? You can’t tell.

All you can see is that it’s called 001.jpg.

Now, if I showed you 001.jpg alt=”Dog Jumping Over Chair”, do you have a better idea what it’s about? You’d guess it’s about a dog and a chair but probably a dog jumping over a chair. You’re not sure what type of dog, or what type of chair, but you have a much better idea now what it’s about.

It’s the same with search engines. By adding a few minor changes, you can get a MASSIVE difference.

How Do You Do This?

Easy. You spend years researching and learning about SEO and what search engines want. You learn all the tricks.

If however, you don’t have the time to learn this, then you should use a nifty little tool to make it easy for you.

Your Next Step

If you’re not an SEO expert or willing to spend hundreds of hours learning, you might need a nifty tool.
